Gold FAQs

We are here to answer your most asked questions about gold.

"Should I get 14k or 18k gold?"

14k and 18k are the highest quality and therefore used in fine jewelry.  Here are the differences between them that help in choosing between them.

Durability: 14k is more durable and less prone to scratches.  This does not mean 18k does not also have it's place. For jewelry that will be worn every day for all activities, 14k is a popular choice. 18k, while also timeless and eternal, is appropriate for daily wear but not heavy cleaning, lifting weights, and the like. 18k yellow gold has a very slightly brighter color than 14k yellow gold. Since 18k gold has a higher purity, it's price point is higher. All said and done, both 14k and 18k are beautiful, valuable, and will last forever if cared for.

"What is the difference between solid 14k/18k white gold and platinum?"

While they may look the same at first glance, platinum is lighter in color than solid white gold. Also, platinum is rarer than gold. It has a different density than gold, and more platinum is needed to make the same piece of jewelry in 14k/18k white gold. This explains platinum's higher price point. Platinum is hypoallergenic and best for those with sensitive skin. One last note, solid white gold is harder than platinum, so treat platinum items more delicately to enjoy forever!

"Is this jewelry solid gold or plated?"

Our jewelry is made with SOLID, authentic 14k or 18k gold (or solid auth .950 platinum). We have learned how much longer lasting solid gold is, and how much better it is on the skin. This is the quality we wish to offer along with affordable prices.

[We do carry one earring set which is plated, for those who would prefer.]
